50 Icebreakers for Remote Teams & Virtual Meetings

Icebreakers for Remote Teams

Remote teams lose the hallway chat, the coffee queue, and the two minutes before a meeting when people talk about their weekend. These icebreakers for remote teams bring a little of that back. They're written for video calls and chat threads, so they ask about what people can see and share from where they sit: the view out the window, the mug on the desk, the pet trying to join the call, the local weather.

Remote icebreakers work because they turn every person's location into something to talk about. A team spread across five time zones has five different afternoons going on, and asking about them builds real familiarity between people who may never meet in person.

Draw a random question with the generator, drop it into Slack or Teams before a meeting, or use the full list below to plan a month of virtual warm-ups.
